Permanent
NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.
To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.
Applications are welcome for the above permanent part-time post, 4 sessions per week, based at the Chalmers Centre, Edinburgh.
Provision of contraception and sexual and reproductive health is well established in primary care but management of sexually transmitted infections, HIV and Gender Identity has traditionally been delivered by specialist services. Most specialist services now offer an integrated approach to delivering the full range of sexual and reproductive health in a ‘one-stop shop’ model of care, focussing on more complex problems and hard to reach groups. Many presentations to sexual and reproductive health services are complex, overlapping with specialist areas of general medicine and general practice and General Practitioners provide a valuable perspective and additional skills within the sexual health team. The provision of services for people with Turner Syndrome is a good example of this complexity. The Adult Turner syndrome specialist service in Lothian is hosted by LSRHS. It provides management of ovarian insufficiency and contraception but also co-ordinates surveillance and management of a range of medical conditions that are more common in individuals with Turner Syndrome (including structural cardiovascular abnormalities and disorders of endocrine and liver function) across the life course.
The GPSI SRH will support core provision of GUM and Sexual and Reproductive Health services within the department, including assessment and treatment of sexually transmitted infection, HIV PrEP, complex contraception including IUC provision and menopause care. It is envisaged that the post-holder will provide clinical care and co-ordination of the Turner Syndrome service at Chalmers as part of the menopause clinic.
The post-holder will contribute to routine clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate trainees as part of the multidisciplinary team.
