Clinical Fellow in Gynae Oncology

This job is a two-year fixed term post based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but also likely to involve sessions at other sites such as St John's Hospital (Livingston) and the Western General Hospital (Edinburgh).
Working within the Gynae Oncology Team, the successful applicant will have opportunities to work in outpatient clinics, have dedicated operating sessions and partake in multidisciplinary team meetings. This will deliver a comprehensive understanding of the management of gynaecological cancers and will enable the success applicate to be in a competitive position to apply for subspecialty training in gynaecology oncology.
Central to this role will be a project to evaluate a novel diagnostic tool in the early detection of both endometrial and ovarian cancer. The successful candidate will lead this study within NHS Lothian under the supervision of Dr Neil Ryan and Prof Andrew Horne. The applicant will be encouraged to enrol in doctorial training (MD) at the University of Edinburgh. Student fees will be covered by the sponsor of the study. Dedicated time will be made available to ensure the successful candidate can complete their thesis during the role. In addition, the successful candidate will be offered a fully funded sabbatical to observe the diagnostic workflow within the sponsors central laboratory in Cambridge UK. As part of their MD, the successful candidate will be supported in achieving a minimum of two first authored peer reviewed
The post holder will have opportunities to participate in audit and quality improvement projects within the Gynae Oncology Service and there will be protected time within the working week to allow the post holder to undertake this.
This post has deanery approval for training and the successful applicant will receive training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience.
There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year. The extension may be at any of the hospitals on the rotation.
