NHS Orkney has an exciting opportunity in our Homecare Oncology team for a Registered Nurse who is passionate about improving patient outcomes and experience. This position is also available for Band 5 Registrants as a development opportunity over a 2-year period whereby you will undertake a supported training and development plan. The supported training and development plan will cover the below elements:

  • Pathophysiology
  • Advanced Clinical Examination Skills
  • Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Cancer and palliative care course if not already done.
  • Systemic Anti-cancer Therapy (SACT) course

The successful candidate will participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of nursing care in conjunction with individuals, their families and the wider multi-agency team.

You will work in a oncology/palliative care Macmillan specialist nurse role as part of the Macmillan specialist nursing team based in Orkney, working to provide expert information, liaison with consultant teams, education and support to patients and their families. You will also provide expert evidence-based support to colleagues where required, across the hospital and community setting.

You will have the ability to undertake a specialist nurse development pathway whilst working Monday - Friday day shifts.

*Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training arrangement, where whilst undergoing training, they will be paid a % of the top of Band 6 and on completion of training will then move on to Band 6 scale.
