NHS Tayside is looking to recruit two permanent BSL/English Interpreters to join the Interpretation & Translation Service.

The Service provides BSL interpretation across Tayside, supporting Acute Services, Health & Social Care Partnerships, Primary Care, and independent contractors.

Our in-house BSL team is a well-established part of the wider Service. This is a unique opportunity to work with Spoken Language Interpreters, to exchange knowledge and experience diverse cultures and communities. We pride ourselves on being a collaborative and supportive team. Offering regular debriefs, reflective practice sessions and development opportunities, we support professional growth and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional BSL/English interpreting services.
  • Participate in the on-call rota for out of hours.
  • Deliver Interpreter Awareness training and advise on BSL translations.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure accessibility to services.
  • Deliver NHST BSL Local Plan in partnership with the local community.
  • Travel throughout NHS Tayside to ensure service delivery.


Essential Criteria:

  • Recent BSL/English interpreting experience.
  • Registration with SRLPDC (Scottish Register of Language Professionals with the Deaf Community) or NRCPD (National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People) as a Trainee or Registered Interpreter.
  • An understanding of Deaf community and culture.
  • Adherence to professional Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to travel including travelling Out of Hours

Working Hours:

  • Core working hours are 8:00am and 6:00pm (can be negotiated).
  • Service operates 24/7 covered by on call.
