Applications are invited for the post of East Sector Manager in the Medical Equipment Management (MEM) Service within NHS Lothian. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical technologist or clinical engineer to lead the delivery of medical equipment management services across NHS Lothian’s East Sector. Based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the successful applicant for this full-time post will lead a team of nearly 20 clinical technologist staff in two workshop teams that support the Royal Infirmary and the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People, both of which are located on the Edinburgh BioQuarter campus, and a number of other clinics and community locations across the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian.
You will assist the Head of Service in the provision of the highly specialist clinical technical service across NHS Lothian. Maintaining and developing high standards of quality-led service provision within the East Sector team, you will possess advanced knowledge and practical experience of healthcare technologies, particularly in relation to medical devices. You will act as NHS Lothian's technical expert on an agreed range of highly complex and specialist medical equipment, providing advice to the Head of Service, to clinical colleagues and to a wide range of other staff, both in the acute and primary care divisions. You will also have experience managing projects and teams and some experience leading or contributing-to the implementation of service and organisational change.
The MEM service employs nearly 60 people and provides a comprehensive equipment management service, including medical equipment library services on some acute hospital sites. From bases at the Royal Infirmary and the Western General Hospital (both in Edinburgh) and St. John's Hospital at Howden, we manage and maintain a wide range of medical devices (approximately 47,000 items with a value of over £125 million) throughout the division and to other hospitals and health centres in NHS Lothian.
Working as part of the MEM senior management team and based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, on occasions you will also be required to visit St. John’s Hospital, the Western General Hospital or other NHS Lothian sites. On occasions you will need to visit other Health Boards or attend national meetings in a variety of locations. There will be an opportunity for an element of working from home.
With a clear focus on patient safety, quality and cost-effectiveness, you will join an enthusiastic multidisciplinary team providing clinical engineering services across the Health Board. Your work will support many clinical specialities delivering world-class healthcare at four acute hospital sites and within the local healthcare community. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, conscientious and capable individual who will need to be self-motivated and have good organisational and interpersonal skills to ensure the smooth day-to-day running and long-term development of the team. Excellent technical knowledge across a wide range of medical equipment is essential, as is a flexible and methodical approach.
The successful candidate will either hold registration either as a Clinical Technologist or Clinical Scientist, or be eligible to join a register within 12 months of commencement of employment.
