We wish to appoint Clinical Development Fellows (2 posts) within the department of haematology at both hospital sites. The posts will commence in 6th August 2025.

Applications are invited from doctors for the position of CDF in Haematology in NHS Ayrshire and Arran who, by August 2025, will have successfully completed the UK Internal Medicine or Core Medical Training Programme or its equivalent and are looking to apply for Higher Specialist Training.

The aim of this post is to provide development opportunities for the post-holders, while supporting our key service areas in relation to the provision of clinical care by a trained doctor workforce. The post will provide experience in the management of haematology patients and development of procedural skills. The posts, although not recognised for training, are structured to allow post-holders the opportunity to further develop their medical career.

This post is likely to appeal to applicants:

  • Wishing to re-enter training at ST4 level. This post will provide valuable opportunities to build your CV to allow competitive advantage at ST4 application level.
  • Wishing to complete alternative certificate of completion of competencies (IMT3). This post will provide valuable knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of haematology patients with the opportunity to be involved in out-patient clinics and assess ward referrals.
  • Seeking further experience in medical specialties and working towards completing MRCP examinations. The medical team are keen to provide teaching and to support candidates through the PACES/MRCP examinations. Given the broad range of medical specialities available at University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse, there are extensive learning opportunities to facilitate this.

There will be regular opportunities to perform and develop procedural skills. Participation in our departmental quality improvement, audit and research work will also be encouraged, thus further strengthening your CV. The post will provide excellent experience for those wishing to apply to haematology training.

Within the constraints of service requirements, we will tailor the job to suit your requirements. It is likely that the post will be rotational through our two hospital sites.

During the tenure of the appointment post-holders will have a minimum of 4 hours per week development time and access to a £1250 study budget (pro rata), to support them with the attainment of their career aims.

A 40% pay banding supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and the core salary will be will be based on a salary range of £45,504 - £71,550. The posts are not recognised for national training. Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice by the time of appointment.
