POST: ScotSTAR Neonatatal Transport consultant
BASE: ScotSTAR West base at Glasgow Airport/South East Base at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
Applications are invited for sessions in the ScotSTAR Neonatal Transport Service operated by the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS). Sessions are available from February 2025, on either a fixed term or permanent basis.
The post is suitable for specialty trainees who have completed specialty training (or who will CCT within the next 6 months) or equivalent in Neonatal Medicine
The neonatal transport service provides a secondary transfer service for neonatal patients across Scotland, working alongside colleagues in the Scottish Paediatric Retrieval Service and Emergency Medical Retrieval Service.
The majority of retrievals undertaken by the Neonatal team are by road in our Neonatal Intensive Care Road Ambulance however approximately 10% are by air on rotary and fixed wing aircraft operated by the SAS and the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter.
Sessions are available to be taken up by successful applicants, usually this is a minimum of 1.5 sessions with 2 or more being preferred. These posts will be part of a 24/7 consultant rota providing consultant support to our West and South East neonatal teams who are staffed with drivers, nurses and ANNPs/doctors. The role is largely supervisory but presence on transport is expected when required.
This role has until now been covered from consultants working from the West Base. On a trial basis this is to be extended to include consultants working from the South East base- this will be on a fixed term basis initially with extension based on an assessment of the success of this change.
