PREREGISTRATION TRAINEE PHARMACY TECHNICIANS

WEST LOTHIAN PRIMARY CARE

Trainee – Band 4 (Annex 21)

Salary Scale (once qualified): £29,116- £31,670

Salary - 1st year – 70% / 2nd year – 75%

NHS Lothian is home to an award winning pharmacy service with a team of almost 500 experienced and skilled pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support workers, analysts, nurses and clerical staff working together across a variety of roles, over multiple sites, all of whom are integral to providing safe and effective patient care.

The aim of the Pharmacy Service is to assure quality of patient care in the provision of treatment with medicines. We are looking for enthusiastic motivated individuals to train as Pharmacy Technicians. This is an exciting opportunity and successful completion of the preregistration period will result in you applying to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Primary care is a new and evolving area within the Pharmacy profession. As such it offers many opportunities to learn and develop whilst providing a major contribution to patient care. This varied job will see you develop relationships in GP practices with many members of the multidisciplinary team, including GPs, practice nurses, administrators and practice managers, along with your colleagues in the Pharmacy team. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop professional links with other areas of the profession. The post is well supported by a developed network of experienced and skilled Pharmacy Technicians.

Applicants must have a minimum of:

A National 5 at Grade A to C in Chemistry and three National 4 Qualifications in Maths, English and a Science subject ( in addition to chemistry) or equivalent SCQF Level.

Training to a Diploma in Pharmacy Services and SVQ 3 in Pharmacy Services is provided through the workplace and day release attendance at College.
