Summer Student- Nutrition & Dietetics

Band 2 £24,647 - £26,763 pro rata

Plus £1,349 Distant Islands Allowance pro rata

3-4 months

27.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday 9am -3.30pm with a 30 minute lunch break)

The Dietetic Summer Student will assist the dietetic team with various tasks, including administrative work, supporting dietetic staff, data input, menu analysis, and writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role is designed to provide practical experience in dietetics and nutrition services.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist with correspondence and communication tasks such as photocopying, scanning, posting out letters
    • Answer telephone, pass on messages and respond to general enquiries.
    • Provide day to day assistance to dietetic staff.
    • Help prepare educational materials and resources.
    • Use nutritional analysis software to analyse patient food diaries.
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions.
    • Enter patient data into weight management database
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date databases.
    • Assist with data collection for quality improvement projects.
    • Analyse and evaluate hospital menus for nutritional content.
    • Draft and revise SOPs for various dietetic processes.
    • Ensure SOPs are clear, concise, and compliant with regulations.
    • Collaborate with dietetic staff to finalise SOPs.

Suitable for those who are studying dietetics, a health related subject, administration, business or management.

You will need strong organisational and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data entry software, basic understanding of nutritional principles and dietary guidelines, attention to detail and accuracy, ability to work independently and as part of a team have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills. In return you will gain hands-on experience in dietetics and nutrition services.

The successful applicant will be required to register with the Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
