Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistants based at University Hospital Crosshouse.
What you will do:
You will be expected to perform a range of duties, which will include data entry, sample registration, sample preparation, laboratory stores management/ distribution and the use of specialised equipment. You will also receive training to enable you to support the liquid nitrogen dispensing service that the laboratory provides to the GP practices across NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
The haematology department is looking for a flexible, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy department.
Good IT and keyboard skills are a requirement of the post as is good physical mobility as manual lifting is involved.
You should be an enthusiastic and motivated individual, educated to HNC level or equivalent in Biomedical Science or other life science subject. Previous laboratory experience preferably in a healthcare setting would be advantageous.

Hours / Shift Pattern:
Post 1 Permanent – 37 hours per week (Monday – Thursday 9am – 5pm, Friday 9am – 4.30pm)
Post 2: BANK
Post 3: BANK
Post 4: BANK
The 37hr post is expected to fully participate in the 24/7 shift pattern. After a period of training, you will be competent to cover shifts as and when required. This will involve working early, late, weekend and overnight shifts. Please note that during overnight periods, you will be the only MLA on shift but will be working in parallel with Biomedical Scientist staff. Examples of shifts are attached below.
Driving Licence / Car Ownership
A full UK driver’s license and access to your own car are a requirement of this post as you may be asked to work in the laboratory at University Hospital Ayr or Crosshouse
