Occupational Therapy Team Lead

Major Trauma Service

Band 7, Permanent, Fulltime

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and motivated Team Lead Occupational Therapist to join the Major Trauma service, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading a dynamic team of Occupational Therapists ensuring the delivery of high-quality rehabilitation services throughout the patient journey from Critical Care through the Major Trauma Ward and into the community. Flexibility and experience in managing Major Trauma care is essential combined with proven leadership skills.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for a clinical caseload within the major trauma service of polytrauma and traumatic brain injury. They will ensure delivery of evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, implement and evaluate interventions to patients with potentially life changing injuries. They will manage Occupational Therapists responsible for early intervention rehabilitation and supporting patients with the transition from the acute setting to home. They will coordinate and oversee an early supported discharge service delivered by the wider acute rehab team including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Rehab Assistant Practitioners and Rehab Coordinators.

The successful candidate will work along-side an established Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist and work collaboratively in promoting service development and evaluation. They will be responsible for the clinical supervision and management of 3 senior Occupational Therapists (B6), a B5 OT, an assistant practitioner OT (B4) and an OT assistant (B3), plus the clinical guidance of 3 Rehab Assistant Practitioners. They will be an excellent team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills. They will foster positive and collaborative team culture, integrating best practices into the team's approach and have previous experience of undertaking service development/QI practices.

There will be a commitment to weekend working in the occupational therapy team at RIE as part of the 5 over 7 day working pattern.

The successful candidate will be supported by the Occupational Therapy Site Lead, join an established group of band 7 leads across the Royal Infirmary site and contribute to hospital wide service delivery and developments.
