Entry Criteria for a Specialist Doctor
A doctor appointed to this grade:

  • shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council; and
  • shall have completed a minimum of 10 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years’ experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted;
  • shall meet the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.

Applications are welcome from enthusiastic candidates to join a well-established community child and adolescent mental health team in Tier 4 CAMHS for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based between the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and RHCYP.

We would welcome applicants who would like to work a range of timetables and are very supportive of flexible working and less than full time (LTFT) job plans.

Tier4 CAMHS is composed of the 12-bedded in-patient unit (Melville Unit) and CAOT (CAMHS Assertive Outreach Team) and Day Programme. West Lothian has its own Tier4 services. This post would be predominantly based in CAOT. This is a multidisciplinary team which operates at the interface between the in-patient unit and Tier3 Community CAMHS. The aim of CAOT is to support discharges from the in-patient unit to community CAMHS and to work with community CAMHS Teams to prevent the need for an in-patient admission by providing enhanced support to a young person.

Post Summary:

  • In collaboration with multidisciplinary team to provide a mental health service for children (0-18 age range) who are being supported by tier 4 services in NHS Lothian.
  • To provide clinical supervision to higher and core trainees
  • To participate in audit of the clinical services for which you work.
  • To play a role in the implementation of Lothian’s Joint Strategy for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and the CAMHS development strategy.
  • To provide reciprocal cover for medical colleagues during periods of annual, professional, or short-term sick leave.
  • To undertake duties as an Approved Medical Practitioner under the terms of the Mental Health Care and Treatment (Scotland) Act 2003
  • To undertake duties for the wider service in accordance with agreed job plan
  • Other duties arising from time to time in consultation with the Clinical Director and Clinical Service Manager.
