We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist to join the team. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing Band 7 Advanced Parkinson’s Nurse to manage a complex case load of patients with support from both Medicine for the Elderly and Neurology Consultants.
The post holder will be involved in direct patient care for adults with Parkinson’s from initial diagnosis through to the palliative stages of the illness, providing expert advice, assessment and medication management to patients, their families/ carers and professionals.
You will be expected to manage a caseload of patients autonomously via clinics and home visits, to educate and work closely with patients, carers and wider members of the MDT including onward referrals, and to prescribe and monitor medication, provide specialist information, advice and support to improve quality of life.
The successful candidate will be dynamic, hardworking, exhibit excellent standards in communication and will be expected to lead and deliver high quality evidence-based care. Individuals should be flexible with the ability to develop excellent interpersonal relationships. You will possess the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
You will need a minimum of 3 years post registration experience and at least 2 years at Band 6 to meet the demands of the role. You must be able to demonstrate post registration experience in the care and management of people with Parkinson’s and or Neurology.
The post holder will be supported in their professional development within the role and training will align to the knowledge, education and skills described in the Parkinson's UK Competency framework for nurses. If the successful candidate is not already in possession there will be a requirement to undertake Advanced Clinical Examination and Non-Medical Prescribing qualifications.
A current driving license is essential.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
