An exciting opportunity has arisen for a School Nurse to join our Tayside wide team.

As an experienced and adaptable nurse you will help support the children and young people fulfil their potential and improve their health outcomes. Working alongside a range of families through our 10 priority pathways in a range of community settings. You require to be personable and work with a high level of emotional intelligence, which is imperative to the role. The role will require excellent communication skills and you need to be able to conduct yourself professionally in high pressured situations with challenging complex cases.

School Nurses support children and young people alongside a multi agency team. You would be working closely with education, social work, health and police on a regular basis. Your caseload would include children on the child protection register, care experienced young people and children with mental health and wellbeing concerns. Knowledge of supporting those in distress and children impacted by trauma and ACE’S, being able to risk manage and implement supports autonomously is a key part of the role. All whilst working within the National Practice Model Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC).

Through partnership working, School Nurses are committed to providing the best care and support for school age children, while contributing to the Child and Young person’s Plan to ensure improved outcomes.

Candidates will have a working knowledge of child protection systems and be expected to provide accessible, safe, effective, person centred care as part of the School Nursing Service. Good communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills along with knowledge of IT systems is essential. The post holder will be accountable for caseload management and leadership, working as part of a team. The post holder is expected to support the Transformation of School Nursing by providing supervision and learning, supporting current and future Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN)/School Nursing Students.

Applicants must be a current Registered Nurse (NMC) and also have a post graduate Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Qualification in School Nursing, Health Visiting or Community Nursing and demonstrate transferable knowledge and skills.

Base of work: There are various School Nursing Bases across NHS Tayside within Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross. Further discussion regarding base/area can be discussed at interview.

Hours of work: core hours 08.30 to 17.00, Monday to Friday, 37 hours/week.
