We have Clinical Development Fellow posts available to start in August 2025 within the Emergency Department at The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. These posts are 80% clinical and 20% development time for a 12 month period.

We recognize that every individual has unique interests and strengths, and we are committed to supporting your growth in your chosen area. Allocation of development time ensures that you have ample opportunity to contribute to the development projects while also receiving the necessary support and guidance from knowledgeable professionals.

You will become part of the team in Scotland’s largest and newest Emergency Department, driven to excel in Emergency and Trauma Care. You will also play a fundamental role in our team gaining experience in all aspects of emergency and critical care. Will we train you, develop your clinical skills and knowledge and help you achieve your future career goals. Previous Clinical Development Fellows have been top competitors in interviews, with a proven track record of securing highly sought-after national training posts.

Whether you’re considering your next career move, want some more experience before entering specialist training, simply want to learn something new or are just excited to work within the bustling, biggest and busiest major trauma centre in Scotland, make your time count for something, these posts have much to offer you.

The Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) is the most modern facility of its kind in the UK. A purpose-built state of the art Trauma and Medical Emergency Unit led by a team of passionate, dedicated medical and nursing staff delivering the highest possible standards of care.

The ED serves a mixed population with considerable health challenges and provides a full spectrum of Trauma and Non-Trauma Emergency Care. The workload of the QEUH will be approximately 110,000 new adult patients per year with tertiary referrals for major trauma as well as head, spinal, maxillofacial and vascular injuries. The hospital includes the regional centres for neurology, vascular and renal medicine. QEUH is the first hospital in Scotland to have a rooftop helipad suitable for air ambulance and Search and Rescue helicopters with dedicated high-speed lift access to the ED.

The ED is staffed by a team of 32 Emergency Medicine consultants providing 24-hour senior cover, middle grade and junior medical staff plus Advanced Care Practitioners. The department has a special interest in Trauma management and critical care and works closely with our colleagues in Intensive Care, Surgery, Orthopaedic Trauma and a full range of inpatient specialists. An imaging suite is adjacent to the ED with 2 CT scanners available for emergency work around the clock. The hospital also boasts a brandnew lab building connected to the main hospital by a pneumatic pod system.

The QEUH ED brings together clinicians with a proven track record of innovation, excellence in teaching (Regional awards over last 7 years), research and quality improvement. There is a comprehensive package of induction training as well as twice weekly protected teaching throughout the year.

This post would provide challenging and rewarding clinical experience for any doctor looking to improve their practice of Emergency Medicine or give a supportive, collegiate environment for those looking at a longer-term position in a busy, modern ED.
