A vacancy has arisen for a Food Service Assistant within our busy cafe, serving staff and members of the public. You will be part of everything – a bit of cooking, chatting to customers, cleaning, cash handling, ensuring safety standards are followed and being part of a team that provides an important service to our busy healthcare staff.

We believe in team-working, developing your skills and keeping you safe and well at work; by doing this we aim to fulfil our purpose of providing a quality catering service to all patients, staff and visitors. We believe in supporting each other to achieve this and to help give staff and visitors as comfortable an experience as we can.

We’re looking for people who share our team-working ethos and who have a keen interest in catering. With a good level of basic education and good communication skills, you will need to be able to follow instructions so you can take part in the initial training and induction, which takes place when you start. From there, your manager and colleagues will give you the support you need while you complete your on the job training.

The work you do in the Catering team will be essential to the smooth running of the Health Service in Shetland; you will be a valued member of the team and may have the opportunity to develop skills in other areas of the facilities team if you wish, such as domestic, catering or laundry.

Hours of work for this post will be day shifts Monday to Friday.

You will be expected to comply with the Induction Standards and Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers within 3 months of commencing your role – details can be viewed on http://www.hcswtoolkit.nes.scot.nhs.uk/resources/hcsw-standards-and-codes/

For an informal discussion, please contact Susan Tait on 01595 743000 extension 3106.

Closing date: 22/06/25

Interviews: 30/07/25
