Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed term post of 23 months.

The shift pattern for this position is Mon to Fri.

Occupational Therapy staff in mental health services work in multi-disciplinary teams to provide specialist and generic services which enables service users to achieve health, well-being and optimum function. Service users participate in graded treatment, thus limiting the impact of physical health and mental health problems on ability to function independently.

Occupational Therapy assessments are utilised within the team and by external agencies to identify the person’s functional ability and provide a baseline on which levels of support may be required/identified to maintain a level of independence in a variety of living environments.

This post will focus on a targeted project to reduce the longest waits in CAMHS with a particular focus on assessment and short interventions to support young people to get timely treatment and then be discharged. This post will require a different way of working and will be as part of a small team who will have targeted work to reduce waiting times – it is anticipated there will be a focus on neurodevelopmental assessments. Job plans will not be within a standardised CAPA model but rather developed as a specific waiting list work. This post will be line managed by the Clinical Coordinator within the CAMHS team and work allocated accordingly.

If you are looking for a new challenge with service innovation and development to support timely care in line with realistic medicine then we are keen to talk to you.

Your duties will include:

  • Work within CAMHS within multi-agency structure initially with a specific waiting list team and focused on waiting list reduction.
  • Independently manage a caseload of cases taking on the role of care manager/key worker as required.
  • Act independently to assess occupational needs of a defined client group utilising highly specialist skills to assess, implement, grade and evaluate appropriate treatment programmes, whilst incorporating risk assessment to maximise functional independence and rehabilitation potential.
  • Act independently to assess individual service users to determine their need for occupational therapy intervention through client-centred practice.
  • It is anticipated that neurodevelopmental assessments will form a significant part of this case load.

You should have:

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Must hold or gain a practice education qualification.
  • Up to date mandatory and statutory training record e.g. Fire safety, management of aggression.

Proven specialist skills and knowledge in relation to OT in mental health and/or young people gained through a range of short specialist course and experience gained through working in multi disciplinary or multi agency teams.
