Consultant in Palliative Medicine (Part time)

Applications are warmly welcomed to join a multidisciplinary team contributing to the provision of a comprehensive specialist palliative care service for the people of Grampian and the Islands.

Applications are invited for a part-time, 7PA post based at Roxburghe House in Aberdeen. The post may also involve provision of medical support to the Hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team based in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Roxburghe House is the regional specialist Palliative Care unit providing care and specialist advice for patients, families and healthcare professionals across the Grampian health board region. Advice and support is also provided for Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles. Roxburghe House is situated within the grounds of Royal Cornhill Hospital, within easy walking distance of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). The multidisciplinary Specialist Palliative Care Team based at Roxburghe House provides inpatient, outpatient and domiciliary services. It also provides education and training to a wide range of health and social care professionals at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Aberdeen is well known for offering superb quality of life and enjoys first class amenities, housing and schools. There are excellent connections with other British cities and the continent, flying time to London is approximately one hour with regular daily flights - and road and rail links to all points north and south are easily accessible. Aberdeenshire includes some of the most spectacular countryside in Europe with Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm Mountain National Park and a wide range of outdoor pursuits within easy reach or commute of the city.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
