Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, part time (32 hours per week) post based in Various Locations
This is a combined clinical and laboratory post based between the Western General Hospital and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, providing clinical care for adult patients with Inherited Metabolic Disorders in South East Scotland, with outreach to the rest of Scotland, as part of the nationally-commissioned Scottish Inherited Metabolic Disorders Service, and laboratory expertise and clinical liaison in metabolic biochemistry. This is a new and evolving service, and straddles both clinical care and laboratory medicine in order to enhance diagnostic accuracy, optimise treatments, and improve long-term outcomes for adults with inherited metabolic conditions in Scotland.

Key requirements include:
GMC registered medical practitioner
CCT or equivalent in Chemical Pathology and Metabolic Medicine, Clinical Biochemistry or relevant medical specialty
Maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice
Duties & Responsibilities include:
Adult inherited metabolic disorders outpatient service
LSD therapies outpatient and day-case service
Provision of advice regarding care of known and suspected patients with IMDs during hospital admissions
Provision of advice and expertise in metabolic biochemistry and liaison with clinical and laboratory colleagues
Ability to act at consultant level in the management of inherited metabolic disorders, including lysosomal disorders.
Ability to take full responsibility for independent management of patients.
Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and liaise closely with other clinical colleagues / specialties across Scotland
