SPECIALIST SCHOOL NURSE (BAND 7) – MATERNITY COVER
📍 Location: Newstead, NHS Borders
🕒 Hours: 30 hours per week
📅 Duration: Fixed-term (approximately 12 months) from September/October 2025

NHS Borders School Nursing Team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Specialist School Nurse to join our dedicated team on a fixed-term basis. This position, available due to maternity leave, presents an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute to the delivery of high-quality care and support to school-aged children within the Scottish Borders.

Working in collaboration with Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), the Paediatrics Department, Education colleagues, Social Work teams, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and third-sector organisations, we strive to enhance the health and wellbeing of children, young people, and their families.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care for school-aged children.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary framework to support the health and wellbeing of young people.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with families, professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management, organisational, and prioritisation skills.
  • Act upon advice and guidance provided by senior colleagues.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A comprehensive understanding of the School Nurse Pathway in Scotland (More Info)
  • Knowledge of the Scottish National Practice Model (More Info)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork capabilities
  • Experience in working with children, young people, and families
  • A background in collaborative, multi-professional environments
