NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The post will be for 12 months (August 2025 to July 2026) and will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
The QEUH Respiratory Unit is one of the largest in Scotland, occupying 112 beds in the 4 wards on level 7 of the QEUH, 16 beds in the specialty-based medical receiving unit, 5 diagnostic polysomnography beds at Gartnavel General Hospital and diagnostic beds with access to cardiac catheterization facilities at the Golden Jubilee. The unit has 7-day consultant led care for all inpatients, ensuring the highest care-quality standards and support for training experience, Outpatient clinics are at QEUH, GGH and the New Victoria, with all major respiratory subspecialties covered by the consultant team. There is a large and active clinical workload representing all respiratory sub-specialties, with particular clinical and research interests in pleural disease, adult cystic fibrosis, severe respiratory failure, sleep and breathing support, digital innovation (remote-monitoring and AI), asthma and pulmonary vascular disease. There are also close ties with medical high dependency unit, with potential clinical and research opportunities within this subspecialty also.
The unit has the facilities, resources, experience and enthusiasm to provide highest quality early career stage experience and clinical training in Respiratory & General Medicine. The QEUH respiratory unit is consistently rated very highly in trainee feedback and external educational appraisals.
This 12 month post is designed to provide early career respiratory medicine experience and training. There are focused opportunities to gain subspecialty and procedural experience, and to contribute and learn from components of our busy education, quality improvement, research and innovation portfolio. This post would also be highly suitable for candidates considering career in related specialty (eg palliative care, critical care, cardiology, acute medicine) or to gain subspecialty experience to provide a foundation for a portfolio career.
The successful applicant will take a full part in the Medical mid-tier daytime and on-call rota (50% rota banding).

The CREST form must be completed by a consultant who has worked with you for a minimum continuous period of three months whole-time equivalent wholly within the 3.5 years prior to the advertised post start date for which you are applying.
