The Post:
As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland, but also on an international scale through our leading position in new product development biomedical research and donor/clinical services.
The three Clinical Apheresis Units in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow offer a specialised 24/7 service, with both routine and out-of-hours support, enabling NHS Health Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care at its highest standards. The service is medically lead and nurse delivered according to nationally developed policies and procedures. Our teams have extensive experience in a variety of apheresis procedures, including autologous and allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell or lymphocyte collections, photopheresis, plasma exchanges and red cell exchanges.
The Candidate:
We are looking for a kind, friendly, confident, and outgoing Health Care Support Worker to provide patient focused and quality-care and to support the delivery of apheresis services in the Glasgow Clinical Apheresis Unit based at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. You will become a valued member of a dynamic team, assisting in the delivery of the apheresis activity. Venepuncture skills and experience of working in an acute setting are desirable. Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team, ability to prioritise workload and good communication skills are essential for this role
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and Working Pattern:
The Clinical Apheresis Unit in Glasgow is based at the Beatson WOSCC and opened Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
