Job Advert

The Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) role within the Hospital at Night (H@N) team has proven to be an essential component in delivering high-quality care during out-of-hours periods.

HCSWs carry out a wide range of critical clinical tasks each night, including routine phlebotomy, cannulation, and responding to urgent or emergency referrals for acutely unwell patients. Their contribution ensures timely patient reviews, rapid assessments, and early interventions, helping to minimise treatment delays, particularly those related to intravenous access.
This role involves working 11-hour night shifts on a rotating schedule, including weekend nights. To meet the needs of the service, shifts may vary per week, ranging from two to four shifts, with hours worked over a four-week roster. It offers an exciting opportunity for HCSWs who are fully competent in a variety of clinical skills, such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording, and urinary catheterisation. Successful candidates will be supported and mentored by an experienced team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and HCSWs.
HCSWs are expected to work autonomously and prioritise their own workload effectively to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently. After a period of consolidation of learning, there will be an expectation to undertake Immediate Life Support, further enhancing the care provided by the H@N team.
Your professional development will be guided by a comprehensive competency framework aligned with the four pillars of practice. In addition, you will benefit from extensive initial and ongoing continuing professional development to help you reach your full potential, while contributing to the enhancement of the H@N service and maintaining high standards of patient care during the out-of-hours period.
