Job Advert: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Bias) – Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Band: 5
Hours: Full time, permanent, shift working, 5 week rota
We are seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Bias) to join the Estates team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This is a key role within a busy acute hospital environment, supporting essential building services and patient care through planned and reactive maintenance work.
As part of the Estates Maintenance team, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance, fault finding, repairs and installation works across a wide range of mechanical systems. You will support the safe and efficient operation of plant including heating, ventilation, hot and cold water systems, and other healthcare-critical infrastructure. Occasional work on electrical systems and other cross-discipline tasks may be required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Time-served mechanical apprenticeship (or equivalent)
- Recognised SVQ/NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services
- Broad mechanical maintenance experience in a complex building environment, preferably healthcare or similar
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety and statutory compliance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience of medical gas piped systems and steam plant
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Understanding of hospital-specific estates standards
You will join a supportive and skilled team within the Estates department, responsible for maintaining a safe, functional hospital environment 24/7. The team includes engineers, trades staff, and technical officers across disciplines.
You will be supported by experienced supervisors and have access to NHS education and training opportunities to help you maintain and develop your skills. The role also involves supporting apprentices and less experienced team members.
