Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Applications are invited for this substantive Consultant Cardiologist post which will be based at QEUH and Victoria ACH. The successful candidate will join an established consultant cardiologist team.

Applicants must have MRCP, full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Cardiology or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of Interview. Dual accreditation in GIM would be preferred. You should have extensive training in general cardiology. The successful candidate would be able to develop a sub-specialty interest. Non UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

This is a substantive post which has arisen due to vacated consultant sessions. The successful candidate will be responsible with colleagues for the care of both inpatients and outpatients with a range of cardiology conditions and will be expected to provide a full range of consultant services as agreed with post holder and colleagues, and determined by specialty / sub specialty service demand. The out of hours and weekend on call commitment will be 1 in 11, covering the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The week day commitment to CCU will be 1 week in 18 and for the Cardiology wards 1 week in 13.

It is expected that the successful candidate will provide two General Cardiology clinics per week and undertake vetting of GP referrals. They will also contribute to a newly-developed Cardiology hot clinic rota, and in the future will participate in a proposed cardiology interface care rota for daytime unscheduled care.

Some flexibility in timing of sessions, taking into account Public Holidays, prospective cover in colleagues’ absence, and occurrence of hot activity, will be required.
