For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

  • up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
  • more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified.
  • more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
  • more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

Clinical Photographer (Band 5)

37 hours per week

Salary £33,247 - £41,424

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Photographer to join our team within the Medical Photography Service at NHS Lothian.

We are committed to providing a comprehensive clinical photography / video and ophthalmic imaging service based over five hospital sites within the city of Edinburgh and Livingston, West Lothian. The post is full-time, 37 hours per week (5 days over 7). The successful candidate will be based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston but will be required to help provide cross-cover support to any NHS Lothian site.

You will have a recognised degree-level clinical photography qualification and be on the national Academy of Healthcare Science (ACHS) register. Applicants should be experienced in digital imaging workflow and be familiar with photography image management systems. Experience in ophthalmic imaging is desirable.

Although priority will be given to qualified and experienced clinical photographers, an Annex 21 trainee position may be available for suitable candidates with anappropriate degree in photography. If the post is offered on this basis, then a trainee would be expected to undertake a one year, distance learning, Post-Graduate Certificate in Clinical Photography in order to qualify for the AHCS register. Pay will be based on a Band 5 salary but under Annex 21 conditions until qualified.

A portfolio of recent work is expected to be submitted electronically for candidates without prior Clinical Photography experience.
