NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are invited for a whole-time equivalent Locum Consultant Anaesthetist post based at Aberdeen. The post is being advertised with a general interest and is available for a period of 6 months.

Located in the Northeast of Scotland, Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with quick, easy access to its beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline.

Aberdeen has a large Anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services and caters for well-structured undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programmes. The department is also recognised for its expanding research activity and for its support for a wide range of local, regional, and national professional activities.

The medical school, a state-of-the-art clinical skills centre and several renowned research institutes and centres are also on site which offers a unique opportunity for collaboration and for the development of strong research and teaching interests.

The post is being advertised at an exciting time for NHS Grampian with so many recent and planned developments including the Baird Family Hospital and the new National Treatment Centre. Moreover, with Aberdeen becoming the first Major Trauma Centre in Scotland and the establishment of a new hub for Emergency Medical Retrieval services, there are excellent opportunities for an enthusiastic appointee to develop interests in a wide choice of areas.

The 10 programmed activities job descriptions will comprise 8 Direct Clinical Care and 2 Supporting Professional Activities. On call duties will be approximately 1:8 and on a non-resident basis.

Applications from candidates wishing to work on part time basis will be considered. It will also be possible to accommodate more flexible working arrangements including annualised job plans and job sharing.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post). For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Enquiries should be made to: Dr Paul Bourke, Unit Clinical Director, or Dr Colin Patterson, Chair of the Anaesthetic Senior Staff Committee, (01224) 553144.
