The Role
The RMS Manager is responsible for the entire operational management and leadership of the RMS Department including responsibility for its performance, development, resources and activity through a delegated budget.
- The post holder must make professional/operational decisions on a daily basis within RMS.
- Judgements are required which require in-depth specialist knowledge of RMS procedures and policies.
- The post holder has a high level of autonomy and as the ultimate decision maker is expected to act on own initiative within an area where there are multiple objectives.
- This post involves multi-tasking on a varied spectrum of different complex issues, whilst ensuring that targets and deadlines are not compromised.
- The post holder is required to manage Referral Management Service within resources
Additional Information Specific to the Role
In addition, this post on occasion may be required to provide cover for Health Records Service Managers.

What we'll need you to bring
- The post holder should be educated to degree level or equivalent qualification preferably in a business management discipline. In addition they should have a demonstrable track record and vast knowledge and skills gained within Health Records Service or healthcare administrative support function.
- Institute of Health Records and Information Management (IHRIM) diploma is preferable but not essential.
- In depth specialist knowledge of legislation, for example, Data Protection Act 1998, Access to Health Records Act 1990 and Freedom of Information Act (2004).
- In-depth specialist knowledge of Health Records procedures, diagnostic coding systems, data definitions and NHS data systems.
- Up to date knowledge of national guidelines relating to Electronic Health Records, QIS, Risk Management, Caldicott and the Clinical Governance agenda relating to Records Management.
- Knowledge and understanding of National Initiatives
- Leadership skills and the ability to create cohesive effective team working.
- Experience of Patient Administration Systems.
- Evidence of successful management of change in a large complex organisation.
- Experience of Microsoft Office packages: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

- Please note a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
It would be great if you also have
- Institute of Health Records and Information Management (IHRIM) diploma is preferable but not essential
- Preferably at Team Leader level or above
- Knowledge of how future digital solutions could be deployed across the NHS
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage projects

This role will be based in Medical Records Department within Kirklands - NHSL Headquarters
The working pattern for this role Monday- Friday 9am - 5pm
