The Opportunity
We are recruiting three Senior Charge Nurses (SCN) to lead specialist teams at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. These are exciting leadership opportunities within high-profile clinical areas of one of Scotland’s busiest teaching hospitals.
The Posts
1. 30-Bed Receiving Unit
A fast-paced acute medical and surgical receiving ward providing care for patients admitted directly from the Emergency Department. This unit requires a dynamic leader who can manage high patient turnover, coordinate safe and effective care under pressure, and support a team delivering excellence in acute and emergency medicine.
2. 30-Bed Highly Specialised Colorectal / Intestinal Failure Unit
A nationally recognised service caring for patients with complex colorectal conditions, intestinal failure, and nutritional support requirements. This is a unique opportunity to lead a specialist nursing team at the forefront of advanced clinical practice, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues in surgery, and nutrition.
3. 13-Bed Enhanced Recovery Unit
A progressive surgical unit supporting patients undergoing major surgery, focused on enhanced recovery pathways and reducing length of stay. This role requires an enthusiastic leader with strong knowledge of surgical nursing, patient flow, and quality improvement to ensure safe, person-centred, and efficient care delivery.
About the Role
As Senior Charge Nurse, you will:
- Provide visible, professional clinical leadership within your unit.
- Lead, develop and support your team to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred care.
- Oversee workforce planning, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to drive high standards and innovation.
- Act as a role model for compassionate, evidence-based nursing practice.
About You
You will be :
- A Registered Nurse (NMC) with significant post-registration experience.
- Educated to degree level (or working towards) with evidence of continued professional development.
- Experienced in managing and leading nursing teams, ideally within an acute or surgical setting.
- An excellent communicator with strong leadership, organisational and decision-making skills.
- Passionate about improving patient care, staff development, and service delivery.
