The Senior Critical Care Fellowship offers an exciting opportunity to work at one of the largest and busiest Critical Care Departments in Scotland and one of the busiest in the UK. Successful applicants will also enjoy living in Edinburgh, a vibrant modern capital city that has retained much of its historic architecture but is also famous for its festivals.

The posts are suitable for candidates who wish to expand clinical experience in:

  • Trauma & neuro-intensive care
  • Solid organ transplantation (liver, kidney/pancreas)
  • Fulminant hepatic failure
  • Severe acute respiratory failure
  • Thoraco-abdominal aorto-vascular surgery
  • Advanced airway skills

The post offers protected supporting professional activity (SPA) in other areas of interest such as (time to be negotiated in post, may be up to 4 SPA weekly or equivalent):

  • Research
  • Data science
  • Echocardiography – BSE level 1 accreditation and/or progress towards level 2
  • Education – University of Edinburgh online MSc in Critical Care
  • Quality Improvement and Patient Safety
  • Critical care recovery and follow up

For doctors currently in a training programme it may be possible to take OOPR and complete this as a SSY, please discuss at time of application.

This is a full time Senior Clinical Fellow post based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and is available for 6. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will, after a period of induction, provide out of hours cover to the Royal Infirmary ICU on the middle grade (senior registrar) rota with protected time to pursue a specialist interest. The post is particularly suitable for candidates considering out of program experience from their base speciality at stage 2 or stage 3 training in Intensive Care Medicine, or those seeking additional post-CCT experience in a major teaching hospital. Trainees from a Medicine, Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Surgical background are all equally welcome. The posts are EWTD compliant
