Job Title: Modern Apprenticeship – Sterile Service Multiskilled Technician

To decontaminate, inspect and assemble reusable medical devices for use on patients in clinical areas across NHS Lothian (operating theatres, clinics, A&E and other departments)

To provide full reprocessing of these medical devices using the knowledge and skills gained through ongoing training and experience to ensure devices are processed to an agreed specification in accordance with department procedures, relevant quality standards and current European legislation (Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EEC, Annexe 12 and ISO 13485:2003)

To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the HSDU to provide a quality assured service to all users of the department

You will be supported in your role whilst learning how to maintain high standards of patient care. You will additionally learn and gain:

  • How to establish a report with a multidisciplinary team and gain the confidence of patients and relatives

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to progress your career.

In order to be considered for the Modern Apprenticeship Programme, candidates must meet the following conditions below:

  • Between 16 – 24 years of age* (or to the age of 29 if you have a disability or care experienced)
  • Hold a National 4 or above in English and Mathematics or core skills at level 4 which were achieved within another qualification
