Are you looking for a change of lifestyle surrounded by beautiful landscapes where you can unwind? NHS Shetland is looking for a GP to deliver healthcare in the spectacular West Mainland. Applicants will be enthusiastic and dynamic and will revel in the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the community served by Bixter & Walls Health Centres.

The core role includes providing medical services in a dispensing practice, supported by a dedicated team. You will have plenty of time to spend with patients and forge relationships based on trust and compassion. A key part of the job will be working closely with the clinicians based in Bixter and Walls to ensure excellent primary care for the community. The successful candidate will also be supported to develop specialist interests.

We would welcome applications from either experienced GPs, or newly qualified GPs who may be interested in an Early Career Fellow.

If you are interested in the Early Career Fellow, you will work in our salaried practices and also experience a specialism. The posts offer a combination of learning and development opportunities, supporting First 5 GPs to develop a breadth and depth of experience and additional skills. You will have the opportunity to work within our ever-growing multi-disciplinary team, which includes our in-house pharmacists, physiotherapists, community link workers and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

The Early Career Fellow role will allow:

  • Protected time to develop an area of special interest. The areas currently on offer are Mental Health, Gynaecology, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Frailty and Greener Practice.
  • Protected time to engage with professional development opportunities. These include our thriving and facilitated First 5 group, cluster, clinical pathways, medical interface group and PLT (Protected Learning Time).
  • An opportunity to join the voluntary out of hour’s rota.
