Job Advert

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Staff Nurse Band 5, 4 posts, 37 hours per week, comprising long days and nights.
These positions are based in the Renal Dialysis Unit (RDU) at New Victoria Hospital (NVH). The NVH RDU serves 150 outpatients undergoing regular haemodialysis treatment, the unit operates 24 hours a day. The RDU is a busy, friendly, and welcoming unit, where the nursing team is highly focused on patient care.

NHS GGC renal services encompass six outpatient haemodialysis units, a community home therapies unit, and a main inpatient hub on level 4 of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, which includes 65 inpatient beds, a renal day ward, and an assessment unit. During staff shortages, staff may be required to support other renal areas.

Although previous haemodialysis experience is preferred, it is not essential as comprehensive training will be provided. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop new nursing skills in a supportive outpatient environment. Trainees receive mentorship and a detailed training plan and support from the renal educators.

The successful candidates will be part of the nursing and multi-professional team, providing high quality care to a defined patient group. You will be trained in various technical aspects of care, including the management of Tunnelled central venous catheters, cannulation of AV fistulas/grafts, and operation of NIKKISO dialysis machines. You will also assess patient needs and plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based care programs for patients undergoing renal dialysis in collaboration with the wider renal team.
To be eligible to apply, you must be a Registered Nurse with the NMC, evidence of continuing professional development is desirable
