Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners for the post of Consultant Haematologist based within the Department of Clinical and Laboratory Haematology and the Haemophilia, Thrombosis and Immunology Centre, Royal Infirmary. This is a new, full-time 10 programmed activity position available immediately. This post will include an on-call commitment at the RIE for out-of-hours including classical / benign haematology cover for NHS Lothian and NHS Borders.

The main objectives of the post are:

  • To provide clinical and laboratory haematology services in collaboration with existing consultants . Specific interests in haemostasis and thrombosis, in addition to immunohaematology and other aspects of benign / classical haematology, are expected
  • To play a role in the busy consultative service to other hospital specialties
  • To play a role in ensuring provision of high-quality Haematology Laboratory Services within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh
  • To promote and contribute to research activity with the department
  • To contribute to teaching/training, audit and managerial responsibilities as appropriate to experience

Applicants should possess Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent qualification, and also Membership/Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent qualification, and be on the GMC Specialist Register for Haematology or be within 6 months of achievement of CCT.
