An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Clinical Fellow in Breast Surgery to work with our friendly and proactive expanding team. We are looking for experienced doctor in Breast Surgery. This is a 1 year fixed term, full time post of 40 hours per week with no out-of-hours on-call commitments. Successful candidate is expected to work independently with own clinics and theatre sessions, depending on surgical skills and building toward a totally independent practice with consultant support when needed.
The department offers a full service of Screening and Symptomatic Breast cancer care, with access to full range of radiological support including MRI biopsy and AI diagnostic facilities. The theatre suite offers all facilities to support whole range of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, from localisation of none palpable lesions, to various Oncoplastic techniques and reconstruction, with full support of microsurgery colleagues in Plastic Surgery. The department is part of North East of Scotland Training program with full training support and facilities in one complex of hospitals.
There is active trial recruitment and research projects, with full teaching program.
The successful candidate is expected to be flexible to cover clinical work in new patient one stop clinic, review clinics and in-patient cover. There is on call commitment during working hours for breast abscess referrals, and referrals from other specialties, which will be shared among middle grade doctors. Regular theatre session assistance as well as independent depending on experience with developing own skills in breast cancer surgery towards an independent practice. Participation in the weekly MDT and screening clinic is expected, alongside assisting consultant colleagues with result clinic while they have other commitments or on leave.
Candidates working toward higher exams, CESR and having special development requirement are encouraged to discuss their plans as early as possible with the head of department to facilitate their progress.
Regular teaching and training session’s attendance, QI projects, M&M and CME attendance.
Appointments to these posts do not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised by the Deanery for training although they will provide excellent experience.
