The Role

To provide a high quality clinical psychology service to children, adolescents and families in a specified Child and Adolescent Mental Health [CAMH] team working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the department’s policies and procedures. This includes:

  • Psychological assessment and therapy
  • Advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non psychological colleagues and to other non professional carers.
  • Teaching principles of psychological theory and therapy to non psychologist colleagues in health and social care.
  • To provide teaching and supervision to other psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists, trainee and graduate Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology and Assistant Psychologists
  • To apply research skills to guide and develop evidence based clinical practice, and in service development, service evaluation and clinical audit, and undertaking clinically relevant research.

In this key role, you will:

  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the Tier 3 Multidisciplinary team based on the appropriate use, interpretation and incorporation of complex and conflicting data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, semi structured interviews with clients, family members and other involved in the client’s care. Also using rating scales, self report measures and direct and indirect observations.
  • To formulate and implement specialist plans for the psychological treatment and / or management of the client’s mental health difficulties and their impact on families. This is based on an appropriate theoretical framework of the client’s problems, involves consideration of highly complex factors such as historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual family or group and utilises techniques where there is evidence of effectiveness. Such formulations and plans are derived after consideration of a range of options and the implications for the young person and their family / carers.
  • To be responsible for developing and implementing a range of psychological interventions for children/adolescents, families and groups. To monitor progress and evaluate treatment options taking account of both theoretical models and therapeutic methods utilised and to reformulate where considered necessary.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for planning, managing and prioritising clinical caseload and clinical appointments and maintaining associated case records.

What You'll Bring

  • A First Class Honours or Upper second Class degree in Psychology that provides eligibility for graduate basis for registration with British Psychological Society.
  • An accredited postgraduate Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology to meet the requirements for eligibility to register as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and as a member of the Health and Care Professions Council. Once registered as a member of the HCPC, the post holder should maintain registration. These qualifications confer an advanced level of theoretical and practical knowledge of a range of theoretical models and working practices.
  • Significant post qualification experience of working with children and young people with psychological problems and their families.
  • Training in and experience of, supervising doctoral Clinical Psychology trainees and trainee Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology.
  • A driving licence is required, this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
