The Aberdeen Centre for Reproductive Medicine (Aberdeen Fertility Centre) provides a broad range of fertility treatments and is internationally recognised for its research. The centre is licenced by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and is certified to ISO 15189:2012 and ISO 9001:2015. The centre has been providing patients in Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland with a full range of fertility services for over 35 years.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time position as a Healthcare Practitioner in Embryology/Andrology on a fixed term contract of 12 months to join our outstanding team based in the Maternity Hospital at Foresterhill. This role would involve you working as part of a scientific team to support provide support to the embryology/andrology team at Aberdeen Fertility Centre.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated person with excellent interpersonal skills, a team player, someone who can work independently and has good attention to detail to join our laboratory team in Aberdeen. This post would suit someone who wishes to expand on their experience working in an IVF laboratory within Aberdeen Fertility Centre (AFC) based at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.

As a Healthcare practitioner you would be expected to assist in the Embryology and andrology laboratory to provide a high standard of IVF service which incorporates the latest evidence and best practice. The role requires the Embryology/Andrology Practitioner to:

· Provide a high standard of embryology and andrology service within AFC for the treatment of patients undergoing fertility treatment ensuring safe and responsible handling and identification of gametes in accordance to the HFEA code of practice. This includes becoming competent in key procedures such as witnessing, dish preparation, oocyte retrieval, sperm preparation, semen cryopreservation and IVF insemination in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.

· To assist in the quality control in the laboratory by ensuring all equipment is cleaned, monitored and that appropriate stock levels are maintained.

· To maintain accurate confidential laboratory and patient records including entering clinical data into a specialist database and to perform audits of all aspects of the service and undertake data analysis.

· Communicate daily with patients in a sensitive manner conveying complicated information regarding their treatment in an easily understood format.

· Communicating regularly with colleagues in the multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients receive the best treatment.

· Maintain and enhance knowledge and experience through Association of Reproductive Scientists and Clinical Scientists (ARCS) continuous professional development (CPD) scheme which is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council

· To support the laboratory manager to ensure all appropriate equipment validation is undertaken and all daily and monthly monitoring of critical equipment is undertaken.

· To take part in the rota of duties including on-call and weekend work and to work flexibly to perform tasks as and when necessary including out of normal working hours.

· Competence in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential and familiarity with proprietary systems QPulse and Datix is a big plus.
