NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role:
- Providing patient meals to 5 main sites and 8 satellites areas, each year producing in excess of 10 million meals.
- Providing staff/visitor meals to 3 dining rooms, 3 coffee lounges, each year producing in excess of 50 thousand meals.
- Operating times: production kitchen 6.00am until Mon - Sun
- Operating times: dining rooms, coffee lounges and shop until Mon - Sun
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, Part time
Base location - New Victoria Hospital
Shift Pattern - Monday - Friday 1030-1430
Key responsibilities:
- All aspects of production kitchen cleaning ensuring work schedules are followed
- Cleaning and wash-up of all equipment, machinery, crockery associated with Catering services
- Assist in the preparation of food service
- Receipt and storage of supplies
- Removal and disposal of waste
- Report faults to supervisor
- Maintain high standards of personal and general food hygiene
- Deliver dining room service to patients/staff/visitors/functions
- Cash handling
- Report any faults to supervisor
- Use equipment only as instructed
- Work in a safe manner and give consideration to others around you
- Ensure all statutory and Divisional procedures are followed
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Knowledge of all aspects of Catering Services as in job purpose (Induction training provided)
- Training in the use of all machinery used (Training provided)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety (Training provided)
- Knowledge of COSHH (Training provided)
- Knowledge of Lifting and Handling (Training provided)
- Basic Food Hygiene certificate (Training provided)
- Knowledge of Infection Control practices (Training provided)
- Function delivery drivers require a driving licence

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
