Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pain Specialist Nurse based across University Hospital Crosshouse and Ailsa Hospital. This post is offered on a fixed-term / secondment basis for 1 year of appointment.

Hours:

37 hours per week, part-time hours may be considered for this post.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you will do:

An exciting 12 month secondment opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified nurse to join our small but dynamic multi-disciplinary team within NHS Ayrshire and Arran Outpatient Pain Service. The suitable candidate will work along side the Clinical Nurse Specialist in delivering and developing quality person centred care Ayrshire wide to those learning to live well with chronic pain.

The role is multi-faceted and full supervision and training will be given. The role requires you to be flexible and confident to work independently and in group settings or the to have the willingness and enthusiasm to step out of your comfort zone and learn new skills.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

  • Level 1 Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Educated to degree level
  • Interest in Pain Management
  • Previous post registration experience in pain management or relevant post.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current developments in Pain Management for acute and chronic pain
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of role development within relevant position
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of specialist nurse
  • Experience using pain assessment methods in clinical settings and pain management with evidence of implementation of such methods.
  • Experience of teaching in clinical settings
  • Application of audit strategies in practice
  • Experience of implementing change within a clinical environment.
  • Confident at working on multi-professional level
  • Computer skills particularly use of Microsoft Office software
  • Committed to support the Trust’s values
  • Knowledge of a range of pain management strategies used in the management of acute and chronic pain
  • Knowledge of change management
  • An understanding of the application of audit and research practice in clinical setting
  • Demonstrate an understanding of quality & patient safety in relation to pain management
