JOB TITLE: Clinical Development Fellow General and Vascular Surgery


DEPARTMENT: Vascular Surgery, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee

You may also be required to work at any of NHS Tayside’s sites, according to the needs of the service.


POST SUMMARY:


Working within the Department of General Surgery, this post will give the post holder the opportunity to experience the clinical specialty, in which they are expected to have a professional interest, before committing to a programme of training through a Core or Specialty application. This post will offer the successful applicant the opportunity to develop their clinical and professional competence in a purposeful and supervised manner as an assist to overall CV development.


The post is based in the acute surgical receiving unit at Ninewells Hospital, covering emergency admissions for general surgery (oesphagogastric, hepatobiliary and colorectal), vascular surgery and urology.


The post holder will be expected to provide to support to the Foundation doctors and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), assisting with assessing and reviewing emergency admissions, as well as decision making. They will be supported by Specialist Trainees and Consultants from the Emergency on call teams.


The development time, which will equate to approximately 20% of the working week will be dedicated to working with the Vascular Team at Ninewells Hospital. This will be a combination of supervised and directed activity linked to an area of mutual professional interest and may include clinical activity, clinical teaching, quality improvement and safety, or management and leadership development.
