The role:

Ward 56 is a Gynaecology Inpatient Ward providing both elective and emergency Gynaecology care, operating as a 24‑hour receiving unit, 7 days per week, and working within a multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Assessment of care needs
  • Development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes
  • Ensuring high‑quality patient care within Gynaecology services
  • Practising within the legal and ethical framework established by the NMC

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a fixed term post of 12 months.
Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time positions.
This post requires a live NMC pin.

    Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

    The shift pattern for this position is 12‑hour shifts, Monday–Sunday, days and nights.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Provide high‑quality nursing care within Ward 56 (Gynaecology Inpatient Services)
    • Undertake assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
    • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
    • Support elective and emergency Gynaecology pathways
    • Contribute to maintaining CAIR assurance standards and compliance audits
    • Deliver safe practice in line with NMC professional standards
    • Provide postoperative care for Gynaecology Oncology patients, including those receiving intrathecal morphine

      Essential Criteria

      • Registered Nurse on the NMC Register
      • Evidence of continued professional development
      • Ability to fulfil the requirements outlined in the job description

      Desirable / Development Opportunities

      • Experience or interest in Gynaecology nursing
      • HDU skills within Gynaecology – particularly for postoperative Gynaecology Oncology patients
      • Syringe driver training
      • Palliative care training sessions
      • Experience in emergency Gynaecology
      • Participation in CAIR assurance audits

      From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
