Are you looking for an autonomous clinical pharmacy role within a supportive team?

Do you want to work as a key decision-maker in a multidisciplinary team while still benefiting from strong professional links with an expert pharmacy network? If you are a motivated pharmacist looking for a role where you can make a real impact on patient care, this is an exciting opportunity to specialise in rehabilitation services within NHS Lothian.

About the Role

This is a semi-autonomous pharmacist role, where you will be the pharmacist providing Pharmacy support for Edinburgh’s community hospitals which consist of Ellen’s Glen Community Hospital (34 beds) Findlay Community Hospital (45 beds) and Ferryfield Hospital (48 beds) delivering high-quality clinical pharmacy services to patients undergoing rehabilitation. While working independently as the dedicated pharmacist in the multidisciplinary team, you will also have close alignment with the wider clinical pharmacy team with Royal Edinburgh Hospital and Associated Services (REAS) and across NHS Lothian, ensuring strong professional support and development.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing patient-centred pharmaceutical care, including medicines reconciliation, clinical review, and seamless care planning.
  • Optimising medicines use through the systematic identification and resolution of pharmaceutical care issues.
  • Collaborating closely within the multidisciplinary team, where pharmacy is a highly valued contributor to patient outcomes.
  • Delivering medicines information and patient counselling, ensuring safe and effective medication use post-discharge.
  • Contributing to service development, shaping the future of rehabilitation pharmacy services within NHS Lothian.

This is an ideal opportunity for a pharmacist seeking greater clinical responsibility within a specialist setting while maintaining strong connections with a wider team for professional development and support.

Why Join Us?

At NHS Lothian, we are committed to fostering an environment where every pharmacist has the opportunity to thrive. By joining our team, you will benefit from:

  • A highly autonomous role where you will be a core decision-maker in the multidisciplinary team, with the freedom to lead pharmaceutical care for rehabilitation patients.
  • Strong professional support through close working relationships with the wider NHS Lothian clinical pharmacy team.
  • A chance to develop specialist skills in rehabilitation pharmacy, an area where expert medication management is crucial to patient recovery.
  • Ongoing training and development, including opportunities to enhance your leadership and prescribing skills.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist with a passion for delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Completion of, or equivalent competence mapped to, the Post-Registration Foundation Pharmacist Framework.
  • Experience of proactively influencing prescribing to improve patient care and optimise medication use.

Skills and Attributes:

  • A commitment to patient-centred care, with experience working in environments that focus on improving health outcomes.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective integration within multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to work both independently and within a larger pharmacy network, ensuring safe and effective medicines management for complex rehabilitation patients.
  • A proactive approach to service improvement and a desire to contribute to the future development of clinical pharmacy services.

If you are ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role where you can shape pharmacy services in rehabilitation care, we would love to hear from you.
