The post holder must hold a driving licence.
As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team the post-holder will work in partnership demonstrating compassionate caring behaviours to fulfil the key functions of the CMHT. In particular the post-holder will be responsible for the assessment of people referred to the service. The post-holder will be involved in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care using a strength based recovery focused approach to care that proactively involves the person and optimises self-management. The post holder is required to be able to undertake duties without direct supervision working in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals/ agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies. This involves working in a variety of home/ near to home community environments. Participating in regular caseload line management supervision and Clinical Supervision are critical aspects of the role. Supervising the practice of others, undertaking mentorship/ preceptorship responsibilities and contributing to the learning and development of the staff team are important aspects of this role.

An Exciting nursing opportunity has arisen for a Community Mental Health Nurse to join the multidisciplinary team within East Dunbartonshire Mental Health Team
This will be based at the Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centre
The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00
Please note the post holder required to carry domiciliary visits across East Dunbartonshire
Key responsibilities:
- Function as Named Nurse/keyworker within a multi‑disciplinary team for a defined patient caseload.
- Complete holistic assessments of care needs, including risk assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programmes.
- Carry out all relevant nursing care to meet individual patient needs in the least restrictive and least disruptive way possible.
- Identify and respond to health promotion needs, focusing on improving patients’ mental and physical wellbeing.
- Identify and respond to patient needs related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, child protection, and/or self‑harm.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and carers, ensuring needs are identified and met within a framework based on equality, dignity, respect, and cultural/spiritual diversity.
- Work proactively with other agencies/services (e.g., interpreters) to ensure effective communication.
- Work within agreed competency‑based parameters using evidence‑based psychological therapies/approaches for individuals and groups as required.
- Administer prescribed medications/treatments in compliance with NHSGGC Policy; monitor effectiveness; manage unwanted side effects.
- Work in partnership with patients and carers using values‑based practice to support recovery and prevent relapse.
- Ensure professional practice adheres to the NMC Code when exercising any delegated function, with regard to legislation including:
- Adults with Incapacity Act 2000
- Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003
- Adult Support and Protection Act 2007
- Children & Young People Act 2014
- Support the line manager in maintaining robust clinical governance within the CMHT, including:
- Establishing and maintaining clinical effectiveness
- Leadership and policies
- Procedures and operational standards
- Participation in service development, evaluation, and improvement
- Participating in clinical activity to maintain safety and minimise risk

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse – Level 1 NMC registration (Essential)
- Educated to, or actively working towards, minimum degree level or equivalent (Essential / Desirable)
- Completion of evidence‑based psychological therapies/psychological approaches to care programme (Desirable)
- Completion of a mentor preparation programme/registered mentor (Desirable)
- Working knowledge and application of mental health nursing care, including physical healthcare (Essential)
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD (Essential)
- Evidence of clinical supervision/reflective practice (Essential)
- Working knowledge of mental health/mental illness/wellness and recovery (Essential)
- Working knowledge of rights, values‑based practice and legislation frameworks (Essential)
- CMHN Career Development Framework – evidence of pillars of practice at Level 5 (equivalent):
- Clinical practice – safe, effective, person‑centred care
- Facilitation of learning
- Leadership – applied
- Research and development (Essential / Desirable depending on pillar)
- Evidence of using digital technology/information systems/email and basic applications (Essential)
- Experience of working in the community environment (Desirable)
- Evidence in career history of a range of skills/behaviours, e.g.:
- Organisation skills
- Self‑directing and self‑motivating
- Effective written and verbal communication, including negotiation, influencing, persuading, facilitating, and conflict‑resolution skills
- Decision‑making skills (Essential)
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritise workload, and adapt to meet person‑centred care needs without direct supervision (Essential)
- Ability to form therapeutic professional relationships and work as a member of the wider team (Essential)
- Working knowledge and demonstrable evidence of the NMC Code (Essential)
- Ability to undertake clinical contacts in a home or community environment, which may require driving (Essential)
