The Role
- Professional and clinical lead for nursing/midwifery services, within area of responsibility and as required across NHS Lanarkshire.
- Expert practitioner providing professional leadership, support and advice within the multi-disciplinary team across NHS Lanarkshire.
- Lead the development and implementation of a programme of clinical audit and research activity within the context of clinical governance.
- Responsible for auditing, evaluating, implementing and monitoring clinical standards, and give advice, support, and contribute to the education of staff, as appropriate, within area of responsibility.
- Carry out all relevant forms of nursing/midwifery care. Demonstrate procedures to and supervise registered and/or unregistered staff, as well as student nurses.
In this key role, you will:
In the broadest context:
- 50% of area of responsibility focuses on providing advice, support and resolution of workforce related issues on a regular basis.
- 25% of the post holder’s work will be assigned to reviewing, developing and evaluating nursing/midwifery services.
- 25% of the post holder’s work will be direct clinical leadership, supervision and support of all grades of nursing/midwifery staff within area of responsibility.
Clinical Leadership
- Provide professional nursing/midwifery and clinical advice and support to the Associate Director of Nursing / Chief of Nursing Services / Chief of Midwifery Services, Site Director / General Manager, Medical Director, Clinical Directors/ Lead and Service Managers.
- Lead in planning, priority setting and decision making to ensure that patient care and organisational goals are met.
- Develop strategies and operational plans to support and meet changing operational service requirements.
- Lead and/or contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, policies and procedures across area of responsibility and NHS Lanarkshire level.
What You'll Bring:
- Registered Nurse/Midwife/ ODP with valid NMC/HCPC Registration
- Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or equivalent framework
- Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
