The role:
Successful candidates will have an occupational therapy degree (or equivalent) and be HCPC registered. Able to evidence community experience with a range of conditions. As this is a board wide role, access to a car is desirable.
The post holder is a member of the team within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service and will provide Occupational Therapy interventions within the team.
- Works as an autonomous practitioner managing a specialist clinical caseload within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
- Has operational responsibility for the daily functions of the Occupational Therapy service within AHP Long Term Conditions Service
- Supervises the Health Care Support Workers within the Long Term Conditions Service
- Has a key role in the education and development of Occupational Therapy and other staff within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
- Active involvement in Research and Development within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
- Provides a specialist resource to other health care staff / patients / carers / other agencies
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- NHSGGC are recruiting three-fixed term occupational therapy staff for the new health board wide AHP Long-term Conditions Service
- This is a hybrid role but touch down space is available in a number of sites including Gorbals Health Centre, Rowan Business Park and Stobhill Hospital
- This is a fixed-term role until 31st march 2027
- The shift pattern for this post is 09:00 to 17:00
Key responsibilities:
- Is professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice as per Health Care Professions Council Guidelines
- Assesses capacity, gains valid consent and can work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent
- Acts independently to assess and analyse clinical and non-clinical information and has responsibility for verifying the diagnosis where required. This will include patients with multiple morbidities pathologies and complex clinical presentation. The intervention will be completed timeously
- Using a brief intervention model, acts independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise their supported self-management, rehabilitation potential and functional independence, including decision-making regarding discharge from care
- Maintains patient documentation as per the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Standards
- Manages an identified complex caseload of patients effectively and efficiently within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service
- Delivers specialist interventions within a brief interventions model using a digital first approach using the principles of graded activity and a wide range of treatment techniques i.e. neuro developmental, therapeutic handling techniques, functional rehabilitation, psychological and emotional wellbeing adaptation, equipment provision, vocational rehabilitation, education and health improvement
- Works as a key member of a multi-professional team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care
- Prescribes and coordinates intervention to be carried out by others such as support workers including training to carry out therapeutic programmes as appropriate
- Attends and reports in clinical meetings and case conferences
- Provides specialist advice, when required, on the management of patients within the AHP Long Term Conditions Service e.g. strategies for coping with perceptual / cognitive deficits

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
- BSc Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council
- Fieldwork / student supervisory experience
- A variety of postgraduate experience of a variety of long term conditions
- Computer literate including use of e-mail and internet search skills
- Evidence of experience of clinical effectiveness - audit / systematic reviews, research proposals
- Supervisory skills in developing and supporting staff
- Self motivated
- Excellent communication skills
- Committed to speciality
- Leadership qualities
- Disclosure Scotland
- Occupational Health clearance
Desirable
- Evidence of further educational qualifications
- Experience of involvement, participation of change / service redesign
- Experience in Quality Improvement to at least SIFs level
- Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle
