The role:

Applicants must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) with significant post-qualification experience along with a broad understanding of pharmacy technical practice and staff management.

  • To support the HSCP Prescribing Team in promoting safe, effective and economic use of medicines through working with Prescribing Support Pharmacists, GP practices, Health and Social Care Staff and Care Homes
  • To be responsible for the planning, co-ordination, management and assessment of functions and staff within the specialist area to ensure work is timely, accurate and appropriate

  • We have an exciting opportunity to join the Renfrewshire HSCP Prescribing Team and play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Pharmacotherapy Service across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
  • This role will be based at Renfrewshire House
  • The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Thursday
  • The post holder will take up this role for a fixed-term period of 9 months
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours


Key responsibilities:

  • Support appropriate, safe, effective and economic use of medicines
  • To collect and collate patient-related prescribing and clinical data from practice computers and/or patients’ notes
  • To identify and highlight areas where patient prescribing management requires intervention and to make relevant recommendations in order to support reviews related to HSCP priority areas
  • To create reports/letters for GP practices detailing work undertaken, outcomes and recommendations e.g. audits, patient data collection and staff training
  • To implement agreed prescribing change to ensure high quality and cost effective prescribing
  • To input prescribing data on appropriate databases e.g. prescribing queries, information required for HSCPs reports
  • In conjunction with the HSCP pharmacists implement an action plan with the GP practice team and provide any relevant associated support that the GP practice may require
  • To support practices, care homes and social care staff in performing audits and reports related to medicines use and patient reviews in line with HSCP and/or GP practice priorities to improves safe and effective use of medicines
  • To facilitate the review of GP practice repeat prescribing systems at individual GP practice and HSCP level and to monitor standards with the GP practice team
  • To provide training to GP practice teams, clinical staff, health and social care staff and other multidisciplinary staff as appropriate on the safe and efficient management of medicines (e.g. repeat prescribing systems)
  • To support GP practice staff in using the practice computer system in relation to prescribing management issues by sharing good practice

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Technician, NVQ3 or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • HNC Pharmacy Services or equivalent management qualification
  • Diploma in specialist pharmaceutical area / Clinical Qualification
  • Registrant with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable:

  • Undertake a recognised management course/qualification

Experience

Essential:

  • Portfolio demonstrating competence in previous and current pharmacy practice, skills, knowledge, and ongoing professional development
  • Extensive post‑qualification experience in hospital, community pharmacy, or primary care
  • Evidence of ability to work proactively with limited supervision
  • Post‑qualification experience as a pharmacy technician with broad understanding of technical practice, including staff management

Desirable:

  • Experience managing junior members of staff (e.g., as a deputy)
  • Basic knowledge of the role of HSCP in provision of healthcare
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical understanding of medicines use
  • Awareness of law and good practice related to prescribing, storage, and handling of pharmaceuticals
  • Experience with audit and project work
  • Good level of knowledge in Pharmaceuticals and Therapeutics
