Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. LUCS (OOH) GP Clinical Development Fellowships - First 5 Applicants only

Lothian Unscheduled care Service (LUCS) has set aside funding to support GPs in their First 5 years post-CCT to undertake a GP Clinical Development Fellowship from March 2026 for one year.

Are you looking for an opportunity to secure some time to focus on professional development activities? Have you really enjoyed your GP Registrar OOH experience?

If so, you may be interested in applying for a GP Clinical Development Fellowship working in the out of hours service as a clinician, with some additional funded time to concentrate on a professional development initiative in hours.

LUCS is hosting several 12-month Development Fellowship positions. The role has two distinct components:

1. Up to 14 hours per week working clinically for LUCS. Various types of out-of-hours shifts may be an option, including weekday and weekend days, evenings and nights.

2. Up to 14 hours per week for professional development at LUCS with Associate Clinical Director support: various options such as medical education, a Quality Improvement project, or even tailoring work attachments to develop towards GPwSI status.

The posts are available for up to 28 hours a week, at a pro-rata 37.5h salaried GP rate for 14h professional development time in hours (£77,160 – £115,167 depending on experience) and a pro rata 40h OOH GP salaried pay scale for 14h clinical work (£141,147 - £157,444 depending on experience); there is flexibility for reduced hours commitments.

The planned start date: as soon after 31/03/2026 as possible.

LUCS has hosted these roles before, previously supported by Scottish Government, and we have former Fellows who are happy to share their experiences, including how it led them on to pursue further GP interests.

If you think this sounds like an interesting opportunity for you and you wish to discuss before you submit an application, we’d love to hear from you.

In the first instance please contact either Dr Hayley Harris (Clinical Director, LUCS), or Dr Lynne Schyma (Associate Clinical Director, LUCS). 0131 537 9152: Hayley.Harris@nhs.scot or Lynne.Schyma@nhs.scot
