Chief of Medicine

5 PA’s + Management Allowance

This is a 2-year secondment, in the 1st instance

This post will be based within two bases – Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) and JB Russel House


We are now seeking expressions of interest from within our current medical consultant cohort for the position of Chief of Medicine

The successful candidate will demonstrate previous medical management experience and possess strong influencing and leadership qualities and the ability to inspire the confidence and respect of colleagues to lead and deliver on key professional and service objectives.

This role carries an annual management fee currently £18,100 and a time allowance equivalent to 5 Progamme Activities which will be discussed on an individual basis to determine the working pattern for direct clinical care and supporting professional activities.

About the role:

The Chief of Medicine – QEUH Rectification will report to the Deputy Medical Director- Acute Services and support the Board’s, Executive and Senior Management Teams on the QEUH Rectification programme.

You will work with the clinical and non-clinical teams, both internal and external, to provide medical leadership and support to the programmes of work focusing on the QEUH Rectification programme.

You will be expected to demonstrate a clear collaborative approach to working, underpinned by positive behaviours, attitudes and leadership competencies that will facilitate the successful completion of the Programme.

Qualifications:

  • You will have a professional accountability to the Deputy Medical Director. - Acute Services
  • You will hold an MBChB (or equivalent) and a relevant specialist postgraduate qualification.
  • You must have current registration with the General Medical Council, including a licence to practise, and be included on the GMC Specialist Register.
  • You will also hold Fellowship of a Royal College.

Experience

  • Significant post qualification experience
  • Significant Senior Management experience in the NHS or similar experience.
  • Be able to demonstrates a high level of competence in the leadership behaviours identified for NHS Scotland Senior Managers.
  • A detailed understanding of medical best practice
  • Experience of working within a senior management team
