Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Manager based at University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
Hours:
36 hours per week.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
UK Driving Licence:
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What you will do:
The post holder will take a lead role in the advanced clinical assessment and ongoing treatment management of all patients, who may have highly complex and/or chronic presentations of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, including Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease.
Provide expert clinical practice within the specialty of Gastroenterology, assisting in the delivery of high quality care of services for this patient group within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
Act as a clinical and professional resource to the multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers. They will also act as a conduit between Primary and Secondary care services.
Undertake the comprehensive, highly specialised assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills.
Undertake and provide clinical leadership, assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes, which are evidence based. Utilise all available resources, considering lifestyle, gender and culture – ensuring involvement of the patient, family and significant others
Manage medications including assessment, review and prescribing in accordance with current legislation/training and successful assessment. Where appropriate develop and utilise supplementary and non-medical prescribing.
Initiate, contribute to and /or sustain audit research to promote evidence based practice.
Assist in the development / expansion of this specialist Gastroenterology service to prevent unnecessary admissions, support in-patient care and enhance early effective discharge.
Develop and maintain an accurate database for patients diagnosed with IBD and continue to moderate and update the current database.
Participates in the delivery of specialist education and training programmes for health care workers and other professional groups, in relation to management of Gastroenterology.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:
First level registered nurse with knowledge, skills and competencies associated with post registration experience in a relevant specialty: Essential
Educated to degree level: Essential
Completion of Non-Medical Prescribing: Desirable
Completion of Clinical Assessment/decision making course : Desirable
Possession of expanded roles: Desirable
Evidence of education/development in Gastroenterology.
Computer literate.
Effective communication, listening, and inter-personal skills.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work as team player.
Ability to travel across sites.
Effective time management skills.
