The role:

The HPCT aims to provide an accessible and integrated service, delivering safe, effective person-centred palliative care for patients and their families with progressive life limiting conditions.

The HPCT takes an interdisciplinary approach to managing challenging physical symptoms, as well as the complex psychological, social and spiritual issues that can surround progressive life limiting conditions, working closely with colleagues to support them in providing best possible care.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

This is a permanent post please see bellow for location and hours.

  • Glasgow Royal Infirmary working 22.5 hours per week - working 3 over 7.
  • Royal Alexandra Hospital working 30 hours per week - 4 over 7.

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key responsibilities:

You will have a degree of autonomy and decision-making within this role. In collaboration with the wider HPCT, you will facilitate the development of excellence in clinical care and address the psycho-social nursing needs of a defined patient group in a variety of acute care settings, including outpatient departments and wards. You will provide clinical leadership and expert advice to nursing, medical, Allied Health Professionals, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) locally, regionally, and nationally.

You will contribute to service improvements in collaboration with the MDT, and develop and deliver education initiatives to staff, patients, and carers, acting as a professional resource to these groups. In addition, you will support the integration of educational initiatives from NHSGG&C, universities, the voluntary sector, and other external agencies into your area of expertise, providing expert professional guidance.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • First Level Registered Nurse

  • Honours Degree or equivalent

  • Undertaking, or willing to undertake, further relevant postgraduate studies in line with Level 6 Advanced Practice

  • Evidence of palliative care education for CPD

  • Postgraduate experience of caring for people with life-limiting conditions in line with guidelines and policies for palliative and end-of-life care

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
